How to practice chord ear training
Chord ear training is the practice of learning to recognize different types of chords by listening. This includes triads, seventh chords, and extended chords. Developing this skill helps you understand harmony, recognize chord progressions, and play music more confidently.
Work through the exercises in each category above. Focus on hearing the overall sound and character of each chord rather than guessing, and repeat exercises until they feel familiar before moving on.
It can be helpful to sing the individual notes in a chord after hearing it. Try singing the notes one by one, starting with the lowest. This helps you understand how the notes relate to each other and makes chords easier to recognize by ear.
Short and regular practice sessions are more effective than occasional long ones. Practicing for 10 minutes each day helps you gradually improve your listening skills. As you become more experienced, you will start to recognize chords more quickly and accurately.
