Definition of the German term schwebung in music:
- the beat between two notes slightly out of tune with one another (perceived as a periodic variation in volume)
- organ stop usually of 8' or 4' pitch with slightly detuned pipes, designed to produce an undulating effect when combined with normally tuned stops (equivalent to "Celeste" in English and "Céleste" in French)
