Nachschlag

Definition of the German term Nachschlag in music:

1. afterbeat (any beat of a bar other than the first beat)
2. the suffix of a trill (most often a turn, or in fast tempos, a simple upper appoggiatura)
3. supplementary note placed after a main note that takes part of its value (used in the 16th and 17th centuries)
