Ear training

Ear training for piano

Our free, interactive ear training exercises help you improve your listening skills and become a better piano player. Choose a category below to get started. The exercises also cover music notation and other essential skills that strengthen your overall musical understanding.

How to practice ear training

Go through the exercises in each category above from top to bottom. They gradually become more challenging as you progress. Focus on recognizing the sound rather than guessing, and repeat each exercise until you feel confident before moving on.

It can be helpful to sing the notes you hear. For example, when practicing intervals or chords, try singing the notes, starting from the lowest. This helps you better understand how the notes relate to one another and makes it easier to identify what you're hearing.

Short and regular practice sessions are more effective than occasional long ones. Practicing for 10 minutes each day helps you gradually improve your ear training skills. As you become more trained, you will start to recognize musical elements more quickly and accurately.
